SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
Knowledge of the principles of supervision, training, safe work practices, report writing & record keeping, laws and regulations associated with the Public Works Department. Knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques commonly used in street construction/maintenance, storm water collection systems, and associated infrastructure; supervision of emergency operations, solid waste collection/disposal and maintenance of parks. Considerable knowledge of the equipment used in various public works activities. Public relations & strong interpersonal communication skills req. Extensive experience in the supervision of public works operations including street construction/maintenance; emergency operations, park maintenance, and solid waste collection is preferred.
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by post-secondary schoolwork, training, and/or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must have a valid VA class B CDL or be able to acquire one within 90 days of employment and satisfactory driving record. AAS in Engineering/Electrical/Industrial Maintenance preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, may be substituted for evaluation at the discretion of city management.
