The Purchasing Department coordinates the procurement of materials, equipment and services, and is under the direction of Karen Mays, Purchasing Manager, and Robin Legus, Senior Buyer. This division is responsible for making authorized purchases, performing related purchasing functions, including securing of bids with recommendations for acceptance or rejection, and awarding bids according to established policies.
The Purchasing Department is responsible for the centralized control and disposal of excess, obsolete and salvageable materials and equipment. The City of Martinsville has selected GovDeals to conduct online sales of surplus equipment and assets. Items for sale will be posted continuously on the web and can be accessed through www.govdeals.com. Bidders can register free of charge at the GovDeals website.
The Purchasing Department also maintains a Stores operation at the Central Warehouse to keep supplies on hand to facilitate the day-to-day operations of departments and is under the direction of Joyce Jackson, Warehouse Specialist, at 276-403-5352.
