Sharon Brooks Hodge was elected to the Martinsville City Council November 6, 2012 for a four-year term ending on December 31, 2016.

Councilwoman Hodge spent 25 years in journalism and corporate communications before becoming the executive director of Black Family Preservation Group, Inc., a national organization that promotes marriage and stable, two-parent African-American home environments.

Before entering non-profit management, Councilwoman Hodge was vice-president of Corporate Communications for a Fortune 500 financial institution and a communications consultant for corporations, academic institutions and charitable organizations. As an award-winning journalist, Councilwoman Hodge wrote for newspapers, magazines, television and the Internet, including a stint as a member of the Capitol Hill and Pentagon press corps. She has experience reporting and writing about government at the national, state and local levels. Currently, she writes about family issues and speaks about marriage and family at churches, local, state, regional and national conferences.

Councilwoman Hodge is a certified marriage educator and a member of the board of directors for the National Association of Relationship and Marriage Education (NARME). She leads Black Family Preservation Group, Inc. in collaborating with civic and faith-based groups nationwide to deliver such services as marriage enrichment workshops, marriage preparation workshops, Christian parenting workshops, programs to support family reunification following the incarceration of a parent, family nutrition, and the development of urban gardens to increase low-income families' access to fresh vegetables.

Along with her executive leadership of Black Family Preservation Group, Inc., Councilwoman Hodge serves on numerous boards and committees that assist families. She is married to Anzel L. Hodge, Jr. and they have two adult daughters, Cameron Brittany Hodge and Ariel Leigh Hodge.
