Hurricane Matthew

Martinsville, VA (October 5, 2016) – City emergency management personnel continue to monitor the path of Hurricane Matthew slowing moving up and along the eastern United States coastline,  particularly regarding any potential impact from wind or rain to this area.  Citizens are urged to closely follow weather reports and to be prepared as conditions may dictate.

“The Martinsville area has considerable hotel, restaurant, and support services capabilities, “  noted Martinsville Mayor Danny Turner,” and our community welcomes those from coastal areas who may be required to temporarily evacuate as the storm passes through.”

Information on local hotel availability can be obtained by contacting local hotels directly, or by contacting the Martinsville Henry County Economic Development Corporation’s Tourism Office.  One local hotel, Quality Inn Dutch Inn responded to an earlier inquiry indicating availability of rooms at regular hotel rates.

The latest storm update projects the path in more of an eastern direction which may minimize impact to central and south side Virginia.  Regardless, close monitoring of continuing storm-related developments is suggested.
