The Purchasing Department coordinates the procurement of materials, equipment and services. This division is responsible for making authorized purchases, performing related purchasing functions, including securing of bids with recommendations for acceptance or rejection, and awarding bids according to established policies. The Purchasing Department is under the direction of Karen Mays, Purchasing Agent, and Senior Buyer, Robin Legus.
The Purchasing Department is located at the Central Warehouse, 990 Fishel Street, Martinsville, Virginia, 24112-3248. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for holidays. Sales representatives are encouraged to visit the Purchasing Department on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or call the office for an appointment.
The Purchasing Department also maintains a Stores operation at the Central Warehouse to keep supplies on hand to facilitate the day-to-day operations of departments and is under the direction of the Warehouse Specialist, at 276-403-5352.
The Purchasing Department and the Central Garage are responsible for the centralized control and disposal of excess, obsolete and salvageable materials and equipment. The City of Martinsville has selected GovDeals to conduct online sales of surplus equipment and assets. Items for sale will be posted continuously on the web.
