Council Member Jim Woods
Jim Woods was appointed to City Council in August 2018. He has had jobs in teaching, public library management, camp and retreat administration, customer service, and the funeral industry. He attended Ferrum College (B.A. – History and Spanish), Regent University (Graduate work in Education and Performing Arts), Emmanuel College (A.A. - Voice), and Patrick Henry Community College studying subjects as varied as medical terminology and the history of India.
Some of the activities that Mr. Woods has been involved in locally since moving back to Southside Virginia include: productions with the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre, the TheatreWorks Community Players, and the Patriot Players, fundraising for the Patrick Henry Elementary PTA, the Martinsville Uptown Rotary Club, and attending several area churches in Collinsville and Martinsville.
Mr. Woods, the oldest of five children, was raised in a Christian home by parents (Dr. Dan and Mrs. Gwen Woods), who taught him to be teachable, respectful, approachable, and engaged as a citizen. His wife is the former Marlene Eames, a registered nurse and patient rights’ advocate. He has a Canadian-American step-daughter, Olivia Gauthier Tuzyk and her husband, Aaron, a son, C.J., and a daughter, Cate.
