MARTINSVILLE ANNOUNCES FURLOUGH FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
The City of Martinsville implemented an employee furlough policy effective April 6, 2010. This policy applies to all employees under the jurisdiction of the City Manager.
In order to reduce the operating costs associated with the first quarter of fiscal year 2011, City Manager Clarence Monday has made the decision that City employees will participate in a mandatory furlough day, Friday, September 3, 2010. This will be in conjunction with the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 6, 2010. The City Municipal Building will be open September 3, 2010, with Constitutional offices conducting business as usual, however, City administrative offices will be closed that day to the public. Also, the City Municipal Building, City administrative offices, and City Constitutional offices will all be closed September 6, 2010.
Employees in essential operational positions (Public safety- Police, Fire, EMS, water/sewer plant operations, refuse collection) will continue on the normal schedule on Friday, September 3rd, with those employees taking their mandatory furlough day as soon as can be scheduled within their respective departments.
We regret any inconvenience to our citizens. However, this action is necessary due to the continued economic challenges facing our City.
