Doodle Bugs Summer Science Explorers: Young Naturalist
Ages 3 - 5 with an adult
Discover nature as we explore the woods and stream in Frank Wilson Park behind the museum.  You and your child will play outdoor games, create nature crafts, and make new discoveries together.

Youth Sports
BOWLING CAMP for ages 7-16
Sportlanes, Henry County Parks & Recreation and Martinsville Parks & Recreation will be hosting a summer bowling camp for children ages 7-16.  Each child will be taught different techinques and instructions each day, along with a chance to bowl a couple of games.  Space is limited so please sign up today! CHEER AMERICA
Students will learn the following: fundamentals of pom and cheerleading, dance routines, parade routines, cheers, chants, leaps, jumps, how to perform in front of audiences, and preparations for tryouts for middle school and high school squads.   Classes are 45 minutes. 7th Annual Mustangs Baseball Camps
Join us for either of the two camps or both. 6 hours of instruction from Mustangs' Coaches and Players. Each participant will receive a camp T-Shirt and four General Admission seats for a future Mustang's home games. All camp participants will be recognized on the field before a Mustangs Regular Season Home Game too. The date of the home game will be in late July. Junior Naturalist Camp
Ages 6 - 8 and 9 - 11. Would you like to be a nature expert?  Join our new Junior Naturalist program and learn all about Virginia's natural world.  After two weeks of fun, interactive nature exploration, you will be awarded your Junior Naturalist certification. Week 1: Plants, Animals, and Outdoor skills, Week 2: Water, Soil, and the Environment.

Women & Men. Open to all ages 15 and older. Players will be placed in divisions according to skill level - NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, & ADVANCED. Round Robin Format and top 4 players or doubles teams play in a single elimination Sunday evening.
DATES/TIMES: Aug. 27-28, starting at 8:30am both days

Coed Adult Softball League
Ages 18 and older. Register at the Parks and Recreation Department, 746 B Indian Trail. Formed teams only! All games are played at Southside Park. NSA Sanctioned. Call for a Registration Packet - 403-5140.
Deadline to register team is Aug. 15. Expected games start date - Aug. 22.      Fee: $325

Men's Flag Football
Men 18 and older. 8 on 8 competition played underneath US Flag Football Assoc. rules. Team must assign a team captain. Team must pick particular color when registering and wear a numbered jersey provided by the team.
DATES/TIMES: First game will be Sept. 11, on Sundays

Wilderness Survival
Age: 13 and up.
You have seen the reality shows, now learn the techniques first hand. Discover the subtle keys to survival including risk assessment, planning, and decision making. Learn the basics of shelter, food and water that can help you survive those crucial hours in the wilderness. Beginner Kayak Class
Beginner Course (No experience needed and all equipment is provided): Join instructors from the American Canoe Association (ACA) to learn the basics of kayaking.  In this workshop students are given an introduction to kayaking and presented with equipment and skills. A basic paddle skill set is presented and practiced allowing students to safely and comfortably maneuver on the water. Age: Teens and up. Take guided trip along a remote section that takes you past Eggleston Falls one of the best spots on the Smith River.  Join us for a fun and relaxing day on the Smith River. Smith Downriver Boat Race
This 4.5 mile long river race will take you from the South Martinsville River Access in Martinsville to the festival grounds located at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton. Free shuttles will be provided to help you get from one river access to the other. More information and registration form can be obtained from http://www.smithriverfest.com/. Senior Services
Who we serve...  Martinsville Senior Center provides recreational opportunities to adults age 50 & over and transportation services to those 60 & over and to those under 60 who are disabled. The Senior Center also distributes by mail a quarterly newsletter with information containing specific programs.  Recreational activities are offered at the Senior Center and several off-site locations.

Services
Transportation - Martinsville city residents age 60 & over and those under 60 who are physically challenged who do not have any type of transportation may sign up by calling the Senior Center at 403-5260.  Transportation is provided Monday through Friday 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. to medical appointments, grocery store, pharmacy, nutrition site at the Senior Center, Social Services, recreational activities and to other locations that promote continued independent living.

An assessment form is filled out on each person requesting transportation and a determination is made within 3 working days whether you are eligible. There is no charge but donations accepted.

Breakfast/Supper Club
Breakfast Club meets the first Monday of each month at 9a.m.  Come join us for food, fun & fellowship.  The Supper Club meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30p.m.  Seniors participating in either the Breakfast/Supper Club are responsible for the cost of their own meal.  Please see the restaurant locations below:

9-1-1 Cell Phone Program
The Senior Ctr. collects old cell phones and has them refurbished and then distributed to seniors for the purpose of calling 9-1-1 only.  For more info. on how to receive a phone, call 403-5260.

Start your weekend off with a fun-filled morning of bowling every Friday at Druid Lanes.  This is a non-competitive league so don't worry if you are a beginner.  Our spring season is already in full swing but you can still get in on the action.  We also hold Pizza Parties periodically at the Bowling Alley.  For more questions concerning our Bowling League please call 403-5260.

DROP-IN HEALTH SCREENINGS
