Registering to Vote
To register to vote in the City of Martinsville, fill out a Virginia Voter Registration Application (PDF), sign and date, and submit the application to:

Absentee Voting
Early Voting
You can vote early at the Registrar’s Office beginning 45 days before Election Day and ending the Saturday before Election Day. You do not have to have a reason or fill out an application to vote early. You must provide your name and address and show an acceptable form of ID.
Applying to Vote Absentee by Mail
- Download the Virginia Absentee Ballot Application (PDF) and complete all requested personal information. You must sign your application.
- You may contact our office at 276-403-5122 to have an Absentee Ballot Application mailed to you.
- Your completed Absentee Ballot Application may be returned by mail, email or fax no later than 5 p.m. on the eleventh day before the Election.
- You may also submit an online Absentee Ballot Application if you have a current Virginia driver's license.
Drop Off Locations
If you choose not to mail your ballot, you may drop off your completed absentee ballot inside the Voter Registration Office at:

You can also leave it at the dropbox located outside of the Office during normal office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Office will also be open the two Saturdays preceding each Election; Saturday, October 28th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may drop off your completed voted absentee ballot inside your polling place on Election Day between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Military & Overseas Voters
All military and overseas citizens should complete the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA (PDF)) to request an absentee ballot. Additional information for military and overseas voters can be found on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
