[ARCHIVED] 2025 Fire Hydrant Flushing Schedule

2025 Fire Hydrant Flushing Schedule and Zone Map-01

As part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable water system, the City of Martinsville’s Water Resources and Fire Departments will begin their annual fire hydrant flushing and pressure testing program starting in July. The flushing will take place weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Hydrant flushing is a crucial part of the City’s routine maintenance program to ensure water quality and to confirm that fire hydrants are in good working condition for emergency use. During this time, residents may experience temporary discoloration in their water. This is due to the disturbance of harmless sediment in the water lines. Running cold water from all faucets simultaneously for a few minutes usually clears up the issue.

Flushing Schedule:

  • JULY 7–11: Areas north of Jones Creek, including Clearview Drive, Barrows Mill Road, Greyson St, Liberty St, Stultz Road, Northside Dr., Memorial Hospital, and surrounding streets.
  • JULY 14–18: Liberty Fair Mall, Commonwealth Blvd to Memorial Blvd, all of Chatham Rd (including adjacent streets), extending to Woodhaven Rd and the Bethel Lane area.
  • JULY 21–25: Revisit of areas north of Jones Creek, from Clearview Drive through Barrows Mill Road, Greyson St, Liberty St, and Stultz Road, including adjacent streets.
  • JULY 28 – AUG 1: West of Market St and north of the railroad: West Church St, Fayette St to the West Corporate Limit, Memorial Blvd to the North Corporate Limit, and surrounding streets.
  • AUGUST 4–8: Northeastern Martinsville: East Church St from Starling Ave to the East Corporate Limit, Commonwealth Blvd from Fairy St to Chatham Rd, Blankenship Rd, and nearby streets.
  • AUGUST 11–15: Brookdale and Spruce Streets to Parkview Ave, Mulberry Rd from Starling Ave to Sheraton Ct, Rives Rd, and adjacent areas.
  • AUGUST 18–22: Southside of the City (south of the Norfolk & Southern railroad), including Memorial Blvd, Askin St, Starling Ave, Forest St, Rivermont Heights, and neighboring roads.
  • AUGUST 25–29: Mulberry Rd from Sam Lions Trail to the end, including Com Tassel Trail, Industrial Park Dr, Frith Dr, and Fontaine Dr.
  • SEPTEMBER 8–12: Spruce St from Parkview Ave to the eastern Corporate Limit, Brookdale St, Indian Trail, Corn Tassel Trail, Sam Lions Trail to Country Club Drive, and surrounding streets

Important Reminders for Residents:

  • Avoid washing laundry during flushing in your area to prevent staining.
  • If water appears cloudy or discolored, run cold water through all faucets until it clears.
  • Any sediment stirred up during this process has already been treated with chlorine and is not harmful, though it may discolor water temporarily.

The City appreciates your cooperation and understanding as this vital maintenance work is carried out. For updates or questions regarding the flushing schedule, residents are encouraged to contact the Water Resources Department.
