Martinsville City Council recognized Rennie Hairston for his accomplishments at the recent Virginia Commonwealth Games and his continued success as an independent track runner during Tuesday Night's council meeting.

Rennie Hairston, a 2021 Magna Vista High School graduate, continued to pursue his track ambitions beyond his high school career as an independent runner and at last year’s Virginia Commonwealth Games in July at Liberty University, Hairston took home four medals in the 100 and 200 meter dash, the 800-meter run, and the 400-meter hurdles.

Hairston has also garnered a number of honors including the 2023 USA Track & Field Virginia 3-Way Indoor Champion, two-time winner of the 400-meter hurdle event at the Commonwealth Games, and 2021 National Congress Athlete of the Year.

Council issued a proclamation for his outstanding accomplishments and offers best wishes for even greater success as Hairston continues to pursue his track & field dreams while representing the City of Martinsville.
