The City of Martinsville implemented an employee furlough policy effective April 6, 2010.  This policy applies to all employees under the jurisdiction of the City Manager.

In order to reduce the operating costs associated with the third quarter of fiscal year 2011, the City budget was approved with some City employees taking a mandatory furlough day on Monday, March 14, 2011.  The City Municipal Building will be open March 14, 2011 with Constitutional offices conducting business as usual; however, some City departments will be staggering the furlough day and may operate with reduced staff which could cause a delay in some services.

Employees in essential operational positions (Public safety- Police, Fire, EMS, water/sewer plant operations, refuse collection) will continue on the normal schedule on Monday, March 14th  with those employees taking their mandatory furlough day as soon as can be scheduled within their respective departments.

We regret any inconvenience to our citizens.  However, this action is necessary due to the continued economic challenges facing our City.
