MARTINSVILLE ANNOUNCES FURLOUGH FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
The City of Martinsville implemented an employee furlough policy effective April 6, 2010. This policy applies to all employees under the jurisdiction of the City Manager.
In order to reduce the operating costs associated with the last quarter of fiscal year 2010, City Manager Clarence Monday has made the decision that all City employees will participate in a mandatory furlough day, Friday, May 28, 2010. This will be in conjunction with the Memorial Day holiday on May 31, 2010. The City Municipal Building and other City administrative offices will be closed from May 28, 2010 to June 1, 2010.
Employees in essential operational positions (Public safety- Police, Fire, EMS, water/sewer plant operations, refuse collection) will continue on the normal schedule on Friday, May 28th with those employees taking their mandatory furlough day as soon as can be scheduled within their respective departments.
This furlough day coincides with the mandatory furlough day that all City Constitutional offices will be taking as a result of state budget reductions.
We regret any inconvenience to our citizens. However, this action is necessary due to the continued economic challenges facing our City.
