Martinsville Seeks Citizens to Serve on Important Committees

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - The City of Martinsville is looking for citizen volunteers to serve on the Power Advisory Committee and the Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

The Power Advisory Committee is being formed to make a recommendation to the City Council as to whether the City should participate in a purchased power agreement for a natural gas combined cycle power generation facility, in partnership with American Municipal Power (AMP).

This committee is expected to be appointed by the City Council at its September 28th meeting.  The review of the power project will begin shortly afterwards, and the committee's work is expected to take approximately three months to complete.

Volunteers are also needed for the Industrial Development Authority, an appointed board that meets on an as-needed basis for certain economic development projects.  Each member of the authority serves a four year term.

Citizens wishing to serve for either purpose need to complete a short application form that is available in the City Manager's Office or on the City's website under "Government, Boards & Commissions, and Application."  The City Manager's Office may be reached by calling 276-403-5182.

"Both the Power Advisory Committee and the IDA serve important roles, and as a government, we value the input of our citizens in the decisions facing our City.  We are seeking citizens who want to serve and who are willing to offer their expertise for the betterment of Martinsville", says Mayor Kim Adkins.
