Effective 9/1/2018, the City of Martinsville has entered a contract with the Martinsville YMCA to provide contractual services for the City Parks and Recreation programs. The YMCA will advertise and accept applications for youth football, basketball, baseball, co-ed adult softball, etc; assign teams and schedules, coordinate venues, arrange, officiating, etc. related to these activities.
The YMCA will collect registration/participation fees as deemed appropriate. Courtney Hairston, staff person from the YMCA, will be the point of contact for City recreational programs.

The City of Martinsville will continue to rent the parks and payment should be paid to the treasurer’s office. "Effective April 1, 2021: Due to the threat of Covid-19, the City of Martinsville asks that you observe the Covid guidelines set forth by the Governor of Virginia during all park activities.” For more information on park rentals, contact Public Works at 403-5154. The Public Works central office is located in Room 226, second floor of the Municipal Building.
The Martinsville Senior Center located at 21 Moss Street is not offering on-site or off-site recreational activities at this time due to COVID-19. The intention is to open as soon as it is safe to do so. The Senior Center also distributes the “Senior Post”, a quarterly calendar of activities & events. Distribution of the “Senior Post” will begin when our recreational activities resume. Please call 403-5260 for more information.

The Beaver Creek Reservoir, with a 1.3 billion gallon capacity, is the primary water supply source for the City of Martinsville. The facility is located approximately two miles north of the City near Patrick Henry Community College. The 175-acre lake also provides a recreational area for activities such as picnicking, fishing and boating. A Lake Warden (276-252-7766) maintains security and regulates recreational functions.
