Who we serve... Martinsville Senior Center provides recreational opportunities to adults age 50 & over and transportation services to those 60 & over and to those under 60 who are disabled.
The Martinsville Senior Center located at 21 Moss Street is not offering on-site or off-site recreational activities at this time due to COVID-19. The intention is to open as soon as it is safe to do so. The Senior Center also distributes the “Senior Post”, a quarterly calendar of activities & events. Distribution of the “Senior Post” will begin when our recreational activities resume. Please call 403-5260 for more information.
The Martinsville Senior Center offers transportation to eligible seniors and disabled non-seniors Monday-Friday 8:30a.m.- 3:30p.m.
To be eligible for transportation individuals must meet the following criteria:
1. They must be sixty years of age or older and live in the City of Martinsville. If under sixty years of age they must be disabled.
2. Lack the ability to transport themselves and lack other means of transportation.
3. Priority shall be given to those who are in the greatest economic & social need.
4. Priority will be given to low-income minority individuals and to those residing in rural or geographically isolated areas.
Individuals can sign up for transportation by calling the Senior Center at 403-5260. An assessment form is filled out and a determination is made within 3 working days whether or not the person is eligible.
The Senior Center transports seniors to medical appointments – this includes kidney dialysis, physical therapy and regular medical appointments. We transport to the drug store to pick up prescriptions and also to do general errands such as paying utilities and banking. General errands and shopping are done Monday – Thursday. We also transport to the food bank, social services, and to other support services for the elderly. After eligibility is determined seniors must call the Senior Center at 403-5260 by 10 a.m. the day before they need service.
