Resolution Passed to Support Advancing Main Street Designation

Martinsville City Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting Uptown Partnership's application to receive the Advancing Main Street designation with the National Main Street Center's Main Street America program.

This designation highlights communities that are working toward meeting the high standards of the Accredited Main Street Program but have not fully met all the criteria. Receiving the advancing designation would symbolize the City's positive trajectory in its revitalization efforts.

Update from Emergency Housing Commission

Emergency Housing Commission Chair Barbara Seymoure presented an update to the Council on behalf of the commission during the Council work session.

Seymoure informed the Council that the Martinsville Henry County Warming Center will be fully funded for operations should the remaining funding come from Henry County. With the funding, the center will operate with seven paid positions. The center is currently hiring part-time positions and looking for volunteers for the upcoming season.

The warming center will be open after November 1st from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. when temperatures are below 40 degrees.

The commission also recommends they cease all activities until new City Council members take their seats following the November 6th election.

November and December Meeting Changes

With the holiday season approaching, the Council voted to hold the November and December City Council meetings on the third Wednesday of the two months, November 19th and December 17th.

The Council also voted to grant city employees the entire day off on November 27th, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
