Recycling

The City of Martinsville provides a drop-off recycling collection center for citizens interested in recycling part of their household waste. The recycling center is located at the intersection of Market Street and Ellsworth Street across from the Martinsville Middle School. For the convenience of citizens, the center is open 24 hours a day except when the recycling containers are periodically emptied.

Accepted Materials

The center accepts:

  • Number 1 Clear and Colored Plastics (Soft Drink, Water Containers)
  • Number 2 Opaque Plastics (Milk, Detergent Containers)
  • Aluminum and Steel Cans
  • Newsprint and Mixed Paper
  • Corrugated Cardboard

The recycling containers are labeled for each type of material. Be sure to place the different materials in the appropriate container. Please do not place other waste or garbage at the site.

Christmas Tree Disposal

The City also offers the recycling of live Christmas trees during January of each year. The trees are ground into mulch and used on various plant bed sites throughout the City. Discarded Christmas trees can be scheduled for pick up by calling the City's Bulk Trash Pickup Line (276-403-5419) and placed at the curb. Citizens can also deliver the trees directly to the Martinsville City Farm (City Jail Annex) located on Clearview Drive. Signs will be posted for the drop-off site.
