Henry County-Martinsville Joint Social Services Board

Meetings

The Board meets on the third Monday of each month at 3:00 pm.

Overview

Established under Title 63 of the Code of Virginia, the Henry County-Martinsville Joint Social Services Board consists of nine members serving four-year terms; three are appointed by the City Council.  The Joint Board was created when the Martinsville and Henry County Social Services Departments were consolidated on July 1, 1997.  The Board makes all decisions regarding expenditures for the Social Services Department, including the preparation and approval of an annual budget and approval of all subsidized adoption cases.  The Board also approves and establishes policies and procedures for the local agency and staff.  Although all employment matters are the responsibility of the Director, the Board is informed of personnel issues of concern, and suggestions are made by the Board.  There are no specific requirements for becoming a Board member.  An attempt is made to have representatives from many segments of the community.
