Western Virginia Emergency Medical Services

Meetings

Board meets on last Monday of every other month at 1pm.

Overview

The Council is a comprehensive system for basic and advanced life support for Planning Districts 4, 5, and 12.  The Council is supported by local governments, United Ways, hospitals, the Virginia Department of Health, and private citizens.  City Council nominates one member for appointment to the Council who serves a three-year term.  Grants are available from the State and benevolent organizations.  The Council provides technical assistance, funding, and assistance to emergency medical services providers in its assigned planning districts.  The Council makes policy decisions for the development and direction.  A comprehensive plan is used as a guideline.

The Board meets on the second Thursday of the last month of each calendar quarter, and meetings are generally held at the Salem Civic Center at 2:00 pm.
