Meetings
The Board meets on Third Monday of each month at 5:30pm.
Overview
The Board is composed of fourteen members serving three-year terms; two are appointed by City Council. The Board was created in 1972 and operates under the licensing authority of the Virginia Department of Behavior Health and Developmental Services. The Board is a quasi-public body with the mandate to plan, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive system of mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse services. The area covering is Martinsville and the Counties of Henry, Franklin, and Patrick. The Board is an operating board with full decision-making authority, and the staff works for the Board. An interest in the Board’s work is probably the major “selection” criteria for Board membership. Some experience and knowledge of the target populations is helpful.
Meetings are typically held in Martinsville on the third Monday afternoon of each month at 5:30pm, although there is some variation in schedule.
